Why is it that we humans are so stubborn that we refuse to address issues that are of vital importance to us until it too late?
Why is it that we ignore our health and wellbeing until we face a life threatening situation?
Why is it that when faced with a diagnosis of an incurable disease, some will make it through and most will succumb?
Surely we all know that our health and well being are 100% our own responsibility. We do accept that no one else can take care of our body for us. Not even our trusted medico's.
Ultimately we choose to accept the advice of various health therapists be they doctors, surgeons, naturopaths, chiropractors, massage therapists, physiotherapists, traditional Chinese doctors or the myriad of alternative and complimentary practitioners that exist out there today.Unfortunately we wait until we have a problem before we consult any practitioner because we believe at some level that we are invincible.
I personally prefer the Chinese method where people go to their doctor to be kept well. They do not have to pay if they get sick because the system is to maintain health.
Healthy life now doesn’t that sound great?
There is a huge difference between fitness and health. I know of many fit people who attend the gym regularly who are incredibly fit but are not healthy. They will suffer heart attacks just the same as someone who doesn’t go to the gym. They will also be diagnosed with cancer just as frequently and suffer depression or any other complaint you can name.
Health is not just about our physical body. To experience perfect health we must establish a balance between our emotions, our body and mind and recognise the fact that we are also spiritual beings. Should any one of these aspects of our make up be ignored, there will inevitably be some ramifications at some stage of our existence. We need to remember that most diseases take many years to manifest as physical conditions. They lay seemingly dormant in our systems because we have lost the ability to tune into our bodies and be aware when things are not 100%. We ignore symptoms believing that they will go away and they often appear to do so. In actual fact, they are still present but we have simply become conditioned to them and no longer see them as an issue that needs to be addressed. This becomes worse as we age because we have been programmed to believe that aches and pains are a normal part of the aging process.
I could spend time here writing about our need for a balanced diet, regular rest, a daily exercise regime and techniques to minimise stress in your life. These are all things that we know only too well and yet implement only when it suits us. What I want to concentrate on however is information that will assist to you recognise the importance of the body-mind connection and how you can use that knowledge to improve your sense of wellbeing and enable you to live a life of your choosing. This ensures that you do spend minimal time, effort and finances on improving your health so that you can make the most of your life. Time is too short to be wasting on difficult tasks when a touch of preventative medicine can work wonders.
