Retaining Your Looks

More and more baby boomers (male and female) are looking to cosmetic surgery to retain or improve the appearance of their faces and bodies. Like most industries, there are both success and horror stories. As not everyone knows someone who knows a good plastic surgeon, we have endeavoured to locate some useful advice on how to go about finding a good plastic surgeon for the procedure you may be contemplating.

In Australia, the peak medical body for the industry is the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons. This organisation has published the following information as a guide to helping people find a good plastic cosmetic surgeon.

  1. Don't be taken in by glossy advertisements. Check the claims made in the advertisement with a professional body like the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons.
  2. Not all medical practitioners performing cosmetic surgery are plastic surgeons. Some don’t even have formal surgical qualifications, so always check their credentials first. Make sure your surgeon is a qualified plastic surgeon with experience in the procedure you are interested in.
  3. When choosing a surgeon, ask your GP for recommendations.
  4. Make sure that your intended surgeon is certified by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and has the letters FRACS after his/her name. This is the only accredited College in Australia.

This is good general information, however if you want some more detailed advice, refer to article Steps to find a qualified plastic surgeon.
