Finding a Partner

The 50s and 60s are often times of great change in our lives. Unfortunately some of the less welcome changes can be the death of a partner or a divorce. As anyone who has experienced this loss would know, it is not easy to adapt to being single again, particularly for women.

As the majority of people who lose a partner in their 50s or 60s still have a lot of living to do, many decide to try and find a new partner. The singles scene has certainly changed over the last 20 – 30 years and it can often be a difficult world to adapt to.

The two options that give you the best chance of finding a compatable partner are a personal introduction agency or an internet dating service. We carry advertising for both of these services.

Personalised introductory agencies have been around for years and the obvious difference between them and web dating agencies is that the introduction agencies interview all their clients and try to match those who could be compatable. All this personal work means that the fees are generally higher than the web sites.

Fortunately one of the great benefits of the web revolution has been the creation of internet dating services. No longer is it necessary to hang round in pubs and clubs trying to meet new people.

Internet dating is easy to do, reasonably secure and gives you the opportunity to search for members of the opposite sex who share some common interests.

There are a number of Australian sites available and most charge a fee if you want to actually contact someone who’s profile looks interesting. The normal sequence of events appears to be some initial email communication followed by a coffee / interview which may or may not lead to a second meeting. So whether you’re looking for a long term relationship, or just want to see what’s out there, here’s an option worth trying.

As a guide for people who are new to the world of internet dating, we have included some suggested “Do’s “ and “Don’ts”, which you might find helpful in our article “Online friendships for the over 50s”.
